The Peak District is spectacular at Christmas, with many of the local villages hosting Christmas markets and festive window displays festooned with twinkling lights. The area tends to be a little quieter and the hills of Mam Tor and Kinder Scout look beautiful as the Winter sun sets on a sprinkling of snow.
Similarly our peaceful, secluded Peak District campsite is perfect for adults looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the festive period. We are one of the few campsites open at Christmas in the Peak District and with a selection of accommodation, hard-standing touring pitches and all weather tent pitches Longnor Wood is perfect for Christmas camping. We close between 3rd January and 2nd February and so are one of a small number of Peak District campsites open over Christmas.
Christmas at Chatsworth
Christmas at Chatsworth is truly memorable. Chatsworth House is decorated for Christmas and open to visitors after Bonfire night. The Chatsworth Christmas market is always special for picking up some Peak District Christmas gifts and enjoying festive food and drink. Festive music in the Chatsworth Chapel. The grounds of Chatsworth Estate are normally decorated with festive lights and displays, where visitors can enjoy a brisk walk and a steaming hot chocolate as they take in the winter festivities. Christmas at Haddon Hall
Haddon Hall’s Mercatum Winter Artisan Markets start mid-November. The artisan Christmas stalls are in outdoor marquees located along the drive to Haddon Hall, within the courtyard and on the Fountain and Bowling Green terraces of the gardens, with some inside the Haddon Hall rooms. A unique shopping experience and a great opportunity to find something a festive gift that is a little out of the ordinary for family and friends. Christmas at Buxton
Enjoy festive entertainment, pantomime, ice skating, delicious food and much more in the Spa town of Buxton throughout late November and December. The Buxton Christmas Bazaar and Pavillion Gardens Lights Switch On normally take place around the 20th November. The Buxton Christmas Market normally takes place in the Pavillion Gardens one weekend in mid-December. Typically there would also be a Santa’s grotto in Poole’s Cavern.
Christmas Carols with a difference
On most weekends in December, you can enjoy Christmas carols within one of the Buxton Caverns. The Peak Cavern (otherwise known as “Devils Arse”) hold regular Christmas carol concerts deep underground inside the cave. Join in the merriment and the singing in this unique and wonderful location.
